26jan2:00 pm- 3:00 pmKenya After the 2017 Election: What Next?Event Type :Event at University of Oxford

Event Details

In 2017, Kenya was plunged into uncertainty as the scheduled August election dragged on until October after the Supreme Court threw out the initial results. The court cited numerous irregularities and illegalities as the basis for their decision. In contrast to the original August run, more than half of eligible voters did not vote again in October. What changed between August and October? What does the 2017 electoral crisis suggest about the state of democracy in Kenya? And what does Kenya’s electoral instability say about the state of democracy in the region?

In an informal roundtable led by Nanjala Nyabola, participants will learn more about the unprecedented crisis and prospects for Kenya and the region over the next 5 years.

This event is being co-hosted by The Oxford Africa Society, The Oxford Africa Initiative and The Rhodes Trust.
