AfOx Research Impact and Engagement Acceleration Awards (RIEA)

The AfOx Research Impact and Engagement Acceleration (RIEA) awards will support African academics and their Oxford collaborators to develop a strategic approach to public engagement with research and embed a culture which values and supports excellence in research engagement in their institutions.  The Awards will support activities at individual, research group or at institutional levels that facilitate engagement with public, private and third sectors stakeholders  to enhance impact via translation of outputs from collaborative research.


Only previous AfOx grant holders- travel grants recipients and AfOx visiting fellows are eligible to apply (see the full list here)

-Proposed projects will need to demonstrate how the proposed activities will bring benefits to the chosen area, and how those activities will generate societal benefits beyond providing knowledge and understanding in the area of focus.

-Proposed projects must demonstrate how they meet ODA compliance and address specific Sustainable Development Goals

-The funding must demonstrably benefit the African institutions/countries involved.

-The funding can be managed either by the host African institution or if preferred, by the partner Oxford department. For applicants with the intention of managing the grants from an African institution we encourage you to take the Good Financial Grant Practice assessment,  which provides an innovative and integrated approach to standardise, simplify and strengthen financial governance of grant funding.
