Research

My study explores the social impacts of fuel subsidy and Girl Education South Sudan (GESS), a DFID funded program, producing evidence into the effectiveness of local and international social policy efforts in politically troubled contexts. First, in 2016, the government adopted a 40% fuel subsidy, benefiting largely the nation’s capital, Juba. The policy was instituted to maintain a decent purchasing power for the ordinary citizens who lost incomes following the devaluation of the nation's currency.  Second, now in its 8th year, the Girls’ Education South Sudan (GESS) program benefits a select number of schools, setting a nice stage for an impact assessment.
