Dr Duncan Elly Ochieng
Dr Duncan Elly Ochieng is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Finance and Accounting at the University of Nairobi, Kenya. Currently, he is a visiting fellow at the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, under the Africa Oxford Initiative (AfOx) Visiting Fellowship programme, collaborating with Professor Thomas Hellmann.
Dr Ochieng’s research focuses on entrepreneurial finance, innovation ecosystems, and sustainable development in Sub-Saharan Africa. With a PhD in Business Administration from the University of Nairobi, he has been involved in numerous research projects, including the EU-funded Global Entrepreneurial Talent Management project, UNAEUROPA funded Green and Digital Transformation for MSMEs and an African Engineering and Technology Network project on digital transformation for MSMEs. His work on entrepreneurial ecosystems and digital innovation is widely recognized, and he holds credentials as a Fellow of the Institute of Certified Investments and Financial Analysts (FFA) and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
A founder of the Entrepreneurship Educators Foundation of Eastern Africa (EEFEA), Dr. Ochieng plays a leadership role in conceptualizing and crafting a continuity plan for the British Council funded Youth Entrepreneurship Accelerator Platform (YEAP) under the auspices of the Innovation for African Universities (IAU) project.He also participates as a catalyst in the virtual Incubators and accelerators namely; Futurize -Fuel Africa and International Entrepreneurship – Lab Smart Money (IELSM).
At Oxford, Dr Ochieng’s project, “Entrepreneurial, Innovation, and Industry Linkage Ecosystems in Higher Education Institutions in Sub-Saharan Africa,” aims to benchmark and evaluate the effectiveness of entrepreneurial and innovation ecosystems in African universities. By identifying best practices and policy implications, his work seeks to enhance these ecosystems, ultimately contributing to sustainable economic growth, poverty reduction, and job creation across the region.
