Dr Itai M`yambo Magodoro

Research

My research interest is chronic HIV infection and its overlap with noncommunicable diseases, especially cardiovascular diseases, in sub-Saharan Africa. I focus on two areas of research: (1) mapping the general epidemiology of HIV/noncommunicable diseases comorbidity in adult populations, and (2) clinical studies of HIV-related cardiac disease, for example, heart failure, in adolescents with perinatally acquired infection as well as adults. For the latter, my research combines cardiac imaging, including echocardiography and magnetic resonance imaging, with laboratory-based studies to better understand the underlying disease mechanisms.

AfOx Fellowship

Itai was an AfOx-Collaborative Fellow in 2018.

During his 8 week AfOx fellowship in 2018, Itai was hosted by the Radcliffe Department of Medicine and Christ Chucrh College.
