Dr Meron Teferi Taye

Research

I am a water resources engineer. My research revolves around understanding hydrological changes due to climate change risks and human intervention particularly on water availability and hydrological extremes. My study areas are mainly the Ethiopian river basins. Identifying water-related risks help to design water management solutions under changing climates, for which my research activities contribute.

I focus on scenario-based analyses to assist water systems to adapt to climate change shocks and enhance their climate resilience. Also, to inform seasonal water management decisions at local and regional scales, I do analysis at sub-seasonal scale for understanding regional climate, (this was the focus of my AfOx research for the Awash basin of Ethiopia).

I use hydrological models and statistical analysis of streamflow measurement and climate models outputs of hydro-climatological variables for current time and future projections. Also, surveys to generate primary data on water abstraction to assess the impact of human intervention.

AfOx Fellowship

Meron was an AfOx-ASC Fellow in 2019.

During her 8 week AfOx fellowship in 2019, Meron was hosted by the School of Geography and the Environment and St Edmund Hall.
