Nande Sulelo

Nande is passionate about access to education, gender equality and linguistic rights.

Before Oxford, she was the head of the Media programmes at the STADIO School of Fashion in South Africa. Nande sits on the global advisory board of the Council for International African Fashion Education (CIAFE) representing Southern Africa. She is also spearheading CIAFE’s Journal for African and Diaspora Fashion.

At Oxford Nande will read for the MSc in Education, focusing on higher education. Within this programme she will explore the cost of Higher Education in South Africa and other barriers to HE, and the essential support structures for students in Higher Certificate programmes to improve throughput rates and avoid NEETs (persons Not in Employment, Education or Training).

Upon completing her studies, Nande aims to change the landscape of higher education, so it is accessible to all Africans from rural backgrounds. This will be through pioneering triple helix programmes to support access to fashion education for Africans, as this industry is the second largest employer in Sub-Saharan Africa.
