
Phyllis Tenkorang
Phyllis Tenkorang is pursuing an MSc in International Health and Tropical Medicine at the Nuffield Department of Clinical Medicine, University of Oxford. She is a Mastercard Foundation AfOx Scholar and a member of Christ Church.
Phyllis is a Ghanaian-trained anaesthesiologist, passionate about strengthening global surgical systems, with a particular focus on innovative and sustainable financing strategies and health policies for safe surgery and critical care in Africa. She volunteers as an anaesthesiologist for Operation Smile, providing free surgical corrections for cleft lip, palate, and other facial abnormalities. She is also a researcher with the Global Anaesthesia, Surgery, and Obstetric Collaboration (GASOC), where she focuses on the economics of surgical systems in low- and middle-income countries.
With over six years of clinical experience, Phyllis holds certificates in Policy Development, Project Management, and Economic Evaluation in Global Health. She has practical experience in health financing from her internship with the National Health Insurance Authority of Ghana and is a member of several prestigious anaesthesiology societies.
Phyllis graduated top of her cohort in West Africa and holds a BSc in Medical Sciences and an MBChB from the University of Ghana Medical School, where she was a Dean’s List honoree.
