
Asad Hussein
Asad is a Somali writer based in Nairobi, Kenya. His work has been published in Sahan Journal, Daily Nation, The Guardian, The New York Times, The New York Review of Books, Foreign Policy Magazine, and elsewhere He grew up in Ifo, a small town in Kenya.
Asad recently graduated from Princeton University, in the United States, where he studied literature. In college, Asad wrote a collection of short stories about his hometown named—nostalgically—A Prayer for Ifo Nuura
Asad will be studying for an MSc in Refugee and Forced Migration, at Worcester College, the University of Oxford. While in Oxford Asad will be exploring his interest in the politics of citizenship and belonging in East Africa. Asad hopes to examine the question: ‘what is next for the refugees in Kenya?’ After his program, he aims to return to East Africa where he intends to tell the stories of refugees with depth and complexity.
