Joseph Asare

Afox Fellow 2025

Joseph Asare is a senior lecturer in the Department of Physics at the University of Ghana. His academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from the University of Cape Coast (UCC) in 2009. His dedication to research led him to the African University of Science and Technology (AUST) in Abuja, where he received a full scholarship to pursue both his Master's and PhD degrees in Theoretical and Applied Physics (2010-2017). He further enriched his research experience through visiting scholar positions at prestigious institutions, including Princeton University (USA), Arizona State University (USA), the Silesian University of Technology (Poland), and Oxford University (UK).

His research focus lies in flexible electronics. His passion for science communication is evident through his publications and active participation in workshops and conferences, where his achievements include winning the Best Contribution Prize at the ICTP Workshop on "Regional Workshop on Materials Science for Solar Energy Conversion" (2013). His commitment to research excellence is further demonstrated by his numerous research grants, including those awarded by the African Development Bank (2014), the Pan-African Materials Institute (2017), the Building a New Generation of Academics in Africa (BANGA-Africa) Seed Grant (2020), and the UNESCO-TWAS Research Grant (2023).
