Afaf Amine Amine

AfOx Fellow 2025

Afaf AMINE is an Associate Professor of Neotectonics and Structural Geology at the Faculty of Sciences, Mohammed V University in Rabat, Morocco. She is currently a Visiting Fellow at the Department of Earth Sciences, University of Oxford, as part of the Africa Oxford Visiting Fellowship Programme.
Afaf’s research focuses on active tectonics. She applies her expertise in structural geology, field analysis and tectonic geomorphology to develop hazard mitigation strategies for seismic challenges in her country, with a particular focus on active faulting.

While at the University of Oxford, Afaf will work on the project’’ Understanding Active Faults in the High Atlas, Morocco, for Earthquake Resilience’’. Afaf’s work will focus on analyzing fault activity and behavior to determine earthquake recurrence and assess seismic hazards in Morocco's High Atlas. The ultimate goal is to create a more accurate seismic hazard map, which will deepen our understanding of earthquake recurrence and improve the region's resilience.
