Buhamizo Ainembabazi

Postgraduate Diploma in Global Health Research

Ainembabazi Buhamizo is a Ugandan residency-trained Associate Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, registered and licensed by the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council. He currently serves with the Sheema District Local Government in the southwestern region of Uganda and is a subscribed member of both the Uganda Medical Association and the Association of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Uganda.

Until recently, he served as Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Ruharo Mission Hospital, a faith-based private-not-for-profit facility in Mbarara City, Uganda, where he had also previously been Clinical Head of the General Medical Services Department. At Ruharo Mission Hospital, he additionally served as the on-site HIV/TB Programme Coordinator, a role in which he managed donor funds and collaborated with various programme-implementing partners.

He obtained a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree from Makerere University in 2015, having been a recipient of the highly competitive direct-merit government sponsorship scheme. He went on to earn a Master of Medicine in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from Makerere University in 2023, graduating top of his class with support from the Japan Overseas Christian Medical Cooperative Service (JOCS) scholarship. He is currently pursuing a Postgraduate Diploma in Global Health Research at the Nuffield Department of Medicine, University of Oxford, through the prestigious Africa Oxford Initiative/Mastercard Foundation scholarship.

Having spent his entire professional life as an actively practising clinician in rural Uganda, he is excited to use his time at the University of Oxford to build meaningful networks and strengthen his expertise in conducting high-quality research. He aims to address the challenges he has encountered throughout his clinical practice and aspires to transition into mainstream academia and research, with a particular focus on adolescent and maternal health.
