Patrick Duncan-Afox Scholar

MSc in African Studies, St Antony's College

Zimbabwe

Chiyedza Zunzanyika will pursue an MSc in African Studies at the Oxford School of Global and Area Studies, University of Oxford. She is a Duncan-Afox Scholar and a member of St Antony’s College.

Chiyedza has gained significant professional experience working at international commercial and civil rights law firms in the UK, US, and Zimbabwe. Notably, she assisted human rights lawyer Clive Stafford Smith at 3DC, contributing to successful cases, including one before the US Supreme Court. Her role as a Legal Analyst at a feminist civil rights firm involved advancing cases on employment, gender, and racial discrimination.

During her time at University of Bristol, Chiyedza served as a committee member for the Pro-Bono Law Society, the Forever African Conference, and the Unity & Diversity in Law Club. Her contributions led to her selection as a co-producer for an exhibition at the Bristol Museum & Art Gallery, which highlighted the colonial heritage of African pieces and the evolving role of Western museums in a postcolonial world.

She holds a First-Class Honours degree in Law from the University of Bristol and received commendations from the Head of the Law School for graduating in the top 10% of her cohort and achieving the highest mark in Law and Race.

Passionate about economic and social development in Africa, Chiyedza aims to empower women across the continent by building sustainable frameworks.
