Dr. Cloudius Ray Sagandira is a Principal Researcher at South Africa’s Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), where he leads pioneering work in advanced pharmaceutical manufacturing. He holds a PhD in Chemistry (2019) from Nelson Mandela University and specialises in agile manufacturing technologies to develop scalable, cost-effective, and sustainable processes for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs).

With over 20 scientific publications and three patents, Dr. Sagandira has successfully developed continuous flow processes for more than 15 APIs, significantly advancing local pharmaceutical production in Africa. His work aims to reduce Africa’s reliance on imported medicines and build a resilient, self-sustaining pharmaceutical industry.

His expertise is shaped by postdoctoral training at Nelson Mandela University, Chimie ParisTech, and DiverChim CDMO in France, as well as industry internship experience at Novartis in Switzerland. Passionate about improving healthcare access in low- and middle-income countries, he champions locally rooted solutions that expand access to essential medicines, foster economic growth, and strengthen health systems.

His work is not only advancing science—it is empowering Africa’s pharmaceutical future.
