Daisy Mpando

Mastercard Foundation scholar

MSc in International Health and Tropical Medicine, Green Templeton College

Malawi

Daisy Mpando is studying for the MSc in International Health and Tropical Medicine. Before coming to Oxford she worked as a social worker in a cervical cancer ward at one of the biggest referral hospitals in Malawi. As a social worker she provided psychosocial support and established the first patient support group and peer support program as well as developing a patient rights charter. During this time she saw how the management and coordination of existing cervical cancer services which led to late diagnoses and preventable death could be improved. It was these experiences that motivation her to make a transition into the health sector by applying for the MSc.

During her time in Oxford she hopes to gain skills in public health, health management and research which will enable her to make a contribution to the health sector in Malawi.
