Joyce Fortunate Aloyo

MSc in Integrated Immunology

Joyce Fortunate Aloyo is a Mastercard Foundation Scholar at the University of Oxford from Uganda, pursuing an MSc in Integrated Immunology. She is a member of Linacre College.

Joyce is a Biomedical Laboratory Technologist and researcher with a BSc in Biomedical Laboratory Technology from Makerere University, where she graduated among the top 5% of her class. During her time at university, she led the student research club, fostering peer engagement in scientific inquiry.

She has over four years of research experience at the Medical Research Council/Uganda Virus Research Institute and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine Uganda Research Unit. Her work focused on Kaposi’s Sarcoma-Associated Herpesvirus (KSHV), contributing to studies investigating environmental determinants and immune responses associated with KSHV viral suppression and transmission in Uganda.

Joyce has also completed apprenticeships at St Mary’s Hospital, Lacor, and Gulu Regional Referral Hospital in Northern Uganda, gaining valuable clinical and laboratory experience.

At Oxford, she aims to build on her immunology knowledge and contribute to research on vaccines and immunomodulation therapies. She is particularly motivated to develop innovative approaches to improve health outcomes in Africa and globally. Joyce looks forward to collaborating with researchers from diverse biomedical and clinical disciplines to address complex health challenges through interdisciplinary research.
