Justin Zelime

Afox Fellow 2025

Dr Justin Zelime is Dean of the Faculty of Research and Innovation at the University of Seychelles, where he has over two decades of experience in education, research, and leadership. His academic journey began as a secondary school teacher in 1998 before moving into teacher training at the National Institute of Education and later joining the University of Seychelles as lecturer and Head of English. He completed his PhD in Language Teaching and Learning and Language-in-Education Policy at Umeå University, Sweden, in 2022.

Dr Zelime’s research lies at the intersection of language policy, applied linguistics, and education, with a strong focus on multilingualism and language politics in post-colonial contexts. He is currently engaged in international research projects funded by the Swedish Research Council, examining language-in-education policies and the potential of additive multilingual education in Sub-Saharan Africa, with a particular focus on Seychelles.

A committed academic leader, Dr Zelime has contributed extensively to curriculum development, teacher training, and educational policy review in Seychelles. He is passionate about fostering inclusive, language-supportive pedagogies that advance educational equity. Through the AfOx Visiting Fellowship, he looks forward to deepening collaborations, sharing insights on multilingual education, and strengthening research partnerships between Seychelles and Oxford.
