Kavuma Asadi

Kavuma Asadi is a Mastercard Foundation Scholar pursuing an MSc in Pharmacology at the University of Oxford and is a member of Wadham College.

Growing up in Uganda, Kavuma witnessed how disease affects not only individuals but entire families and communities. Those experiences inspired a study of pharmacy and a pursuit of research that addresses real-world health challenges.

Kavuma holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy and consistently ranked among the top-performing students in the department. Alongside academic training, Kavuma actively pursued research and leadership, developing a strong interest in neuropharmacology and translational medicine. Research focuses on Alzheimer’s disease, integrating computational drug discovery, bioinformatics, pharmacology, and evidence synthesis to identify novel therapeutic strategies. Contributions include peer-reviewed publications and scholarly book chapters on Alzheimer’s disease, drug repurposing, artificial intelligence in healthcare, and evidence-based pharmaceutical research.

Beyond academia, Kavuma is deeply passionate about engaging with people whose voices are often overlooked. These interactions have reinforced a belief that the purpose of scientific research extends beyond the laboratory and is ultimately about improving lives with compassion, dignity, and equity.

At Oxford, Kavuma looks forward to learning alongside exceptional scholars from across Africa, building lasting collaborations, and strengthening the ability to translate scientific discoveries into accessible therapies. The long-term goal is to advance research on neurodegenerative diseases while strengthening scientific capacity and improving healthcare across Africa.
