Milkiyas Goytom Tekle Tekle

Postgraduate Diploma in Global Health Research.

Milkiyas Goytom Tekle is an Eritrean public health professional and a Mastercard Foundation Scholar at the University of Oxford’s Nuffield Department of Medicine, where he is pursuing a Postgraduate Diploma in Global Health Research.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health from the University of Asmara and has accumulated over three years of professional experience in community and clinical health settings in Eritrea. His work has primarily focused on maternal and child health, health promotion, and disease prevention programs. During this period, he also co-authored a research study titled “Male Partner Attendance in Antenatal Care and Associated Factors in Asmara, Eritrea,” which strengthened his passion for evidence-based health research and policy. These experiences deepened his interest in epidemiology and data-driven health interventions, motivating him to advance his research and analytical skills to better contribute to Africa’s health systems.

Beyond his professional roles, he has been actively involved in volunteer work with young refugees in Uganda, helping them develop practical skills to improve their resilience and future prospects. This experience reinforced his belief in the transformative power of education and inclusive health development across communities facing displacement and marginalization.

At Oxford, he is particularly eager to strengthen his expertise in global health research methodologies, data analysis, and implementation science. He hopes to use these skills to support research capacity building and policy-driven public health programs across Africa, especially in vulnerable communities.

Ultimately, his goal is to become a global health researcher and leader who contributes to equitable and sustainable health solutions for Africa and beyond.
