Millen Mapunda

Postgraduate Diploma in Global Health Research

Millen Mapunda is a Malawian Nurse-Midwife and public health researcher with over seven years of experience in clinical practice, epidemiology, and health systems research. He holds a Master of Science in Epidemiology from the University of Malawi, College of Medicine (now Kamuzu University of Health Sciences, KUHeS), and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Midwifery from Mzuzu University, where he graduated with upper second class honours as a recipient of a merit-based USAID scholarship.

His research interests focus on maternal and child health, infectious diseases, and health systems research. He has served as Principal Investigator on a child growth monitoring study, presented at the KUHeS 3rd Research Dissemination Conference, with a manuscript currently under peer review. As a health services research assistant with the Northern Malawi Research Consortium, he contributed to qualitative research on the transition of sickle cell disease patients from paediatric to adult care, generating policy-relevant insights for improved service delivery.

Beyond research, Millen has played key roles in Malawi’s national health programs, including cholera outbreak response and supplementary polio immunisation campaigns. He has further strengthened his expertise through professional development training in project management in global health, Good Clinical Practice, and health emergency preparedness.

Driven by a commitment to advancing equitable healthcare, Millen aspires to conduct impactful research and contribute to evidence-based policies that improve health outcomes across sub-Saharan Africa. His long-term goal is to mentor future health professionals while leading large-scale public health programs.
