Tabby Ngeru is a Kenyan psychologist, researcher, educator and disability innovator whose work sits at the intersection of mental health, neurodiversity, technology and health systems. She is a Mastercard Foundation Scholar pursuing the MSc in Evidence Based Social Intervention and Policy Evaluation at the University of Oxford, and a member of Wolfson College. Her work is guided by one question: how can African systems respond better to minds that learn, develop and experience the world differently?
Tabby graduated valedictorian with First Class Honours in Psychology from the British University in Egypt through a dual program with London South Bank University. Her distinctions include the university’s Highest Academic Achievement Award, Distinction Recognition as the top psychology student in her cohort, and a fully funded BUE-AU undergraduate scholarship.
Her professional journey has crossed clinical care, medical education and social innovation. As a consultant psychologist and one of Kenya’s few neurodiversity specialists, she has seen how limited specialist capacity, fragmented referral systems and caregiver burden shape outcomes long before a child or family reaches formal care. These experiences led her to found Beyond Brain Barriers Foundation, which expands mental health and neurodiversity support in underserved communities, and Qiotter, a health technology company developing assistive technology, inclusive learning and specialist guided support for children and caregivers. Her work has been recognized by the Global Disability Innovation Hub, including among top 8 women shaping disability innovation globally, and women shifting disability through engineering.
At Oxford, Tabby hopes to strengthen her ability to evaluate and scale interventions that improve frontline care and build more responsive African health and education systems.
Outside work, she enjoys outdoor adventures, the gym; although she remains firmly committed to the weights section rather than cardio, learning Spanish through Netflix, and hosting cookouts and game nights centered on Kenyan food, laughter and connection.
