Zubaina Babirye
Post Graduate Diploma in Global Health Research
Zubaina Babirye is a Ugandan graduate nurse passionate about improving health outcomes through ethical, evidence-based care and research. Her journey in healthcare began at Mbarara University of Science and Technology, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and continues with her Master’s in Public Health at Makerere University.
Over the past six years, she has worked in both hospital and research settings — experiences that have shown her how research can directly inform and transform healthcare delivery. At the Infectious Diseases Institute, she has supported several clinical trials, including the Yellow Fever Study, EDCTP-OPTIMAL, DMID-VTEU, and the TAP trial. Her role as a Research Nurse has equipped her with a strong set of clinical, research, and operational skills essential for driving meaningful change. Earlier in her career, her work in the Accident and Emergency unit, the ICU at Uganda’s National Referral Hospital, and with the Child and Family Foundation Uganda exposed her to the resilience of patients and families, and highlighted key opportunities to strengthen Uganda’s health system.
She is particularly passionate about Maternal and Child Health and about how research can inform just, accessible, and compassionate health systems in low-resource settings.
At the University of Oxford, she is excited to learn from peers and mentors who share her curiosity and commitment to improving healthcare. She looks forward to exploring new perspectives, refining her research and leadership skills, and championing the lessons she acquires to help build stronger, ethical, equitable, and person-centred health systems across Uganda and beyond.
