The University of Ibadan has promoted Dr Godwin Ogbole to professor of Radiology. According to the University of Ibadan website, the announcement was made on 28th November 2022.

Professor Ogbole’s work focuses on neuroimaging of stroke, dementia and paediatric epilepsy. His current work uses machine learning techniques to interpret low-quality brain images.

Despite the increased burden of stroke in low-resource settings in African countries, most facilities have limited access to high-quality equipment and skilled radiologists to interpret images.

Professor Ogbole is working with biomedical researchers in the Wellcome Centre for Integrative Neuroimaging at Oxford University to explore whether machine learning techniques can reliably analyse low-quality patient brain scans.

While in Oxford, As an AfOx senior visiting fellow, Professor Ogbole developed a lecture for the Oxford Clinical Neuroimaging course on using brain imaging for diagnostic purposes in low-resource contexts.

Professor Ogbole was a Senior Visiting Fellow at the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences, Oxford University, as part of the Africa Oxford Initiative's Senior Visiting Fellowship Programme.
